Gua Sha + Facial Roller
What is Gua Sha?
Gua Sha is a massage technique that has been used in Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years. The technique involves massaging the face in outward movements. Massage with Gua Sha increases blood circulation and lymph circulation in the skin. This helps to smooth out wrinkles, improve the skin tone and texture of the face and gives glowing skin.
Gua Sha is a relaxing beauty treatment that will make a difference to your skin by dissolving muscles, draining lymph fluid, increasing blood circulation and tightening the skin on the face. The technique can also relieve pain, reduce swelling, remove toxins from the skin and increase oxygen supply. The technique has become very popular as a natural and "green" beauty ritual that almost functions as meditation for many.
Does Gua Sha Work?
Yes. Gua Sha will also increase blood circulation in your skin. When it is increased, your skin cells receive more blood, nutrition and oxygen so that the skin has an immediate glow, while waste products are carried away. By massaging the face in outward movements, you also start lymphatic drainage. This will reduce swelling on the face and cleanse the skin of waste products. Gua Sha is also used for tension headaches, tense jaw muscles and stiff muscles.
How do I use the Facial Roller?
- Feel free to use the Facial Roller together with a product, such as a serum or a sheet mask, which makes the roller glide over the face more easily.
- When using a face roller, roll with light to medium pressure at a leisurely pace.
- The direction of movement must always be sideways or upwards. Roll in one direction, and don't roll back and forth. Start at the bottom of the neck and move upwards, also remember the sides of the neck. Roll over the same area 5-10 times.
- On the face, start at the bottom of the jaw, then over the cheeks and cheekbones, and roll over the skin 5-10 times up towards the ear. Then roll over the areas under and above the eye towards the temple, and finally in the forehead from the middle between the eyebrows up towards the hairline. Use the large roller on the cheeks, jaw and forehead, while the small roller is great for the area around the eyes.
Tip! For example, if you have Rosacea, I would recommend a chilled Facial Roller over the Gua Sha stone.
How do I use Gua Sha heart?
- Use the gua sha stone on cleansed skin. Use it together with a skin care product that makes the stone glide more easily over the skin, e.g. a facial oil or a thick serum. Never use on dry skin.
- Hold the stone flat against the skin and move the stone at a leisurely pace with light to medium pressure. The direction of movement must always be sideways or upwards.
- Start at the bottom of the neck. Move the stone upwards 3-10 times, wiggle the stone slightly when it hits the hairline. Repeat the same pattern when massaging the sides of the neck and the front of the neck.
- On the face, start at the bottom of the jaw and move the stone towards the ear 3-10 times. The curved side is perfect to use here. The next route is over the cheeks and cheekbones, feel free to use the long flat side of the stone. Then go over the area under the eye, then the eyebrow. In these areas you should use a lighter pressure, and the direction of the stone's movement is now towards the temple. Finally, lightly scratch the forehead, from the middle between the eyebrows and up towards the hairline.
How often should I use my Gua Sha kit?
There is no definitive answer as to how often or how much you should use your Gua Sha set. Use it as much as you want. We recommend 3-5 minutes about 3 times a week.
According to Vogue UK, you will increase microcirculation by up to 400% by massaging your face daily for one to two minutes. Microcirculation is the part of the circuit where nutrients are absorbed and waste substances are excreted.
Which oil should I use?
There are many different oils that can be used for Gua Sha massage. Both almond oil, argan oil, coconut oil, shea butter and jojoba work well together with your Gua Sha set from Silkemyk. Which oil suits your skin depends on your skin type and the season. Dry skin and colder temperatures call for oilier face oils. This could be, for example, coconut oil, shea butter or almond oil. Oily skin and warmer temperatures need lighter oils. This can be oil from apricot kernels, sesame seeds or jojoba oil.
What is Silky Smooth Gua Sha made of?

Why does LED light therapy work?
Our LED mask is a professional clinical mask that has 4 different light programs. LED light therapy works by emitting different wavelengths of light that trick the skin into thinking it is damaged. This initiates a natural repair process in the skin cells. To repair the damage, collagen and elastin production in the skin is stimulated, and the result is improved skin over time. The therapy is totally harmless and will only lead to improved skin quality. Our Led Mask has 576 LED lights in the recommended light waves for each light, which ensures optimal treatment.
Is it safe to use?
Silkemyk has ensured that the spectrum of light used is 100% free of UV light and blue light, so that the mask is completely safe to use. The mask is CE marked and will not harm the skin or eyes. Follow the instructions for use carefully, but if you are light-sensitive, take medication that makes you light-sensitive or have skin and/or eye diseases, you should consult your doctor before using any LED mask.
How long does each treatment last?
- Red light+NIR takes 14 minutes
- Yellow light+NIR 9 takes minutes
- Green+NIR 9 takes minutes
- All colors+NIR 20 takes minutes
How soon will you be able to see results?
LED therapy can treat a number of skin challenges, but you will not see results after one simple treatment, whether at a dermatologist or at home. The mask should therefore be used 4-7 times a week with the light program you prefer for 1-2 months to see clear results, although some notice an effect after a couple of weeks.
Why is the correct NM value important?
When it comes to LED light therapy, the wavelength, or NM value, is crucial to the effectiveness of the treatment. Each color has a specific wavelength that must be within certain NM values to ensure optimal effect:
- Red light 620-750 nm.
- Yellow light 570-590 nm.
- Green light 495-570 nm.
- Infrared (NIR) light 750-1200 nm.
For our LED mask specifically:
- Red light 630 nm.
- Yellow light 580 nm.
- Green light 520 nm.
- Infrared (NIR) light 850 nm.
The depth of light penetration is also important. Our mask has LEDs that can penetrate 1-5 mm into the skin. This ensures that the light treatment reaches the necessary skin layers for optimal effect. In particular, near-infrared light (N-IR) at 850 nm is designed to stimulate collagen production in the skin, resulting in more resilient skin with fewer lines and wrinkles.
Furthermore, the infrared light operates in the background of all color programs in our mask. This ensures that each treatment is supported by the deep penetrating properties of NIR, which enhances the effectiveness of the other lights.
Having the correct NM value is therefore essential to ensure that the LED mask produces the desired results and provides maximum benefit for the skin.
What does red light help with?
- Increases blood circulation
- Revitalizes the skin

- Scars: Red light stimulates collagen production, which can help reduce the visibility of scars.
What does yellow light help with?
- Strengthens sensitive skin
- Reduces redness in the skin
- Reduces burst blood vessels
- May reduce herpes rash
- Eczema: Relieves itching and inflammation
- Rosacea: Can reduce redness and inflammation in the skin
- Activates the lymphatic system which removes toxins from the skin
- Reduce pigmentation
- Stimulates circulation, which helps the renewal of skin cells
What does green light help with?
- Soothes redness
- Evens out skin tone
- Improves skin sensitivity
- Provides a relaxing light treatment
- Reduces Inflammation
- Treats Hyperpigmentation
- Treats Dark Spots
- Can reduce migraines
- Treat sun damage such as sun spots and skin capillaries
What does Infrared light do?
Infrared light is an important component that operates in the background of all the color programs in the LED mask. This is because when different wavelengths of infrared light are applied to the skin, the skin perceives it as being damaged. This initiates a natural repair process in your skin, which can help improve your skin's condition and texture over time.
Does the LED mask have a blue light?
No, Silkemyk's LED mask does not contain blue light. This is because blue light can damage the cornea over time. Our top priority is the safety of our customers, which is why we have chosen to omit blue light to ensure safe use of the mask.
How do I use the LED mask?
Connect to the power bank that comes with the LED mask and make sure it is fully charged. The mask has two small "hands", one next to each eye. When you are wearing the mask and the cord is connected to the power bank, press the left "hand" to turn on the LED mask. To choose between the various color programs, press the right "hand".
You can choose from the following color programs: Red light that lasts for 14 minutes, yellow light that lasts for 9 minutes, green light that also lasts for 9 minutes, and a combination of all the colors that lasts for 20 minutes. When a session is finished, the mask will automatically turn off. If you want to cancel before a treatment is finished, you can turn off the mask by pressing the left "hand" again.
Do all power banks work?
You can use any power bank with our LED mask, provided the capacity is between 5,000 and 10,000mAh.
Skin care products before or after treatment?
The LED mask is highly compatible with most skin treatments. However, the most important thing to note here is that you should always perform your LED mask session on clean, dry skin without applying any product before going under the lights. You can apply any skin care product after you finish the treatment with the LED mask.
Can using an LED mask be dangerous?
- Using our LED mask is completely painless.
- Our LED mask comes with protection for the eyes so that the LED lights will not damage the eyes during treatment. Position the included jelly pads so that the mask fits your face well and make sure the eye protection is close to the eyes. Avoid looking at the light a lot before and after treatment.
- Using an LED mask in general is completely harmless. Blue light can be harmful to the eyes over time, but for that reason we have chosen not to include blue light in our LED mask.
Is the LED mask water resistant?
No, the mask is not waterproof. Should you be unlucky enough to get the mask under water, you must not use it again.
What exactly are Heatless Curls?
It's a hair clip that you use to curl your hair overnight! The best thing about Heatless Curls is that it is so gentle on the hair as the product is made of 100% satin and no heat is required.
It is a well-known fact that using heating devices, especially with regular use and high temperature, damages the hair over time. The heat from a curling iron or straightener is harmful to the hair, and the hair will become dry, worn and frizzy with ends that, in the worst case, break off. And we don't want that! Heatless Curls are a fantastic option for those who want healthy and strong hair.
Are Heatless Curls gentle on the hair?
Yes, as the product is made of 100% satin and no heat is required, this is a very gentle product to use to style the hair.
How can you get curls without using heat?
It may sound too good to be true as we are so used to using heating devices to style our hair, but it is actually very easy to get nice curls without the use of heat. It takes a little more time to get the curls to sit, but by using the Heatless Curler on damp hair, sleeping with it overnight and spraying it with hairspray, you will actually get amazing curls - completely without the use of heat
Are Heatless Curls suitable for all hair types?
Yes, this set is equally suitable for all hair types and hair lengths.
What is included in the Heatless Curls kit?
When you buy Heatless Curls from us, you get the hair bar itself, 1 hair clip, 2 scrunchies and a practical storage bag. This bag is very practical when you want to take the Heatless Curler with you on holiday or overnight.
IPL hair remover
What is IPL?
IPL stands for " intense pulsating light ", and consists of gentle light waves that form a white light. An IPL machine is simply a laser that absorbs light from the hair follicles, and in this way puts the hair growth into hibernation mode. The IPL light waves hit the melanin in the hair under the skin, and the white light is then absorbed by the hair follicles. The heat from the light energy puts active hairs into sleep mode, which means that new hairs do not grow out.
How does IPL work?
The light pulses from Silkemyk's IPL technology hit the melanin in the hair under the skin. The white light is then absorbed by the hair follicles. The heat from the light energy puts active hairs into sleep mode, which means that new hairs do not grow out. Because hair grows in cycles and alternates between being active and passive, the light pulses only stop active hair strands. Therefore, the treatment must be repeated over time to reach all hair follicles.
How long will it take before I can see results?
Most people find that the hairs grow slower and thinner after 3-4 treatments, but that it requires around 12 treatments for a full-fledged and silky-soft result. The result depends on skin colour, hair thickness and colour, genetic hair growth, hormones in the body, diseases and medication. We still see that a full 92% of our customers had less hair growth already after 6 treatments - which is a reasonably high figure.
What areas of the body can I use it on?
An IPL hair remover can be used on most areas of the body with the exception of the eyes and genital areas. Common areas to treat are armpits, arms, legs, face, bikini line, upper lip, fingers, toes and on the upper arms and thighs.
Avoid areas with a lot of pigment. The pigmented areas of your skin will absorb the flashes of light from the IPL laser at a deeper level, which can cause skin irritation. Do not use IPL directly on tattoos, freckles, dark birthmarks or moles.
Do I have to shave the area I want to treat beforehand?
You don't have to do anything, but for optimal results you should shave the areas to be treated before using the IPL hair remover. The reason why we recommend shaving the area first is so that the light energy can reach the hair follicle as quickly and well as possible. Remember that the hair follicles need to be intact for IPL to be effective. Therefore, avoid growing or plucking the hairs in the area you wish to treat.
How often can the IPL laser be used?
We recommend that you use the IPL hair remover once a week for the first 12 weeks. After this period, you can use IPL once a month for 3 months, or until you are satisfied. To maintain silky smooth skin, you should use the laser once every 2 months, or as needed. Because the IPL treatment is only effective during the active growth phase of your hair, there is no point in using the IPL hair remover more than once a week.
Can I use IPL for acne?
IPL can help reduce the severity of acne by killing acne-causing bacteria and reducing inflammation.
Helps IPL against PCOS
Silky smooth IPL is especially helpful for women experiencing excessive hair growth due to PCOS. This gentle but effective treatment reduces unwanted hair growth and contributes to smoother and more even skin.
Helps IPL against Hypertrichosis and Hirsutism
People who suffer from abnormally frequent hair growth due to conditions such as hypertrichosis (excessive hair growth all over the body) or hirsutism (excessive hair growth in women in a pattern typical of men) may find IPL treatments helpful. IPL can help significantly reduce hair growth.
Can I use a solarium before or after an IPL treatment?
It is recommended to avoid solariums and intense sunbathing for at least 2-3 days both before and after an IPL treatment. Before the treatment, the skin should be as light as possible to ensure effectiveness and to reduce the risk of side effects. After the treatment, the skin is more sensitive and prone to sun damage, so it is important to protect it from strong sunlight. Should you absolutely have to use a solarium, make sure you do not use IPL over sunburned skin.
Can I sunbathe before or after IPL treatment?
Sunbathing before or after an IPL treatment is not dangerous, but caution is advised. Before an IPL treatment, it is best for the skin to be as light as possible to increase effectiveness and reduce the risk of side effects. After the treatment, you should wait at least 2-3 days before sunbathing, as the skin may be more sensitive and prone to sun damage. It is important to protect the skin with sunscreen with a high SPF. If the skin is sun damaged, it is recommended to postpone the IPL treatment until the sun damage has healed to avoid further skin irritation.
Can I use my IPL over tattoos?
It is not recommended to use IPL over tattoos. The IPL treatment works by targeting pigment in the hair follicles, and dark colors in tattoos can absorb more light energy, which can cause skin irritation or damage to the tattoo. To avoid potential side effects, avoid using IPL directly on or around tattooed areas.
Can I use my IPL laser over areas with freckles or moles?
You should avoid areas with a lot of pigment. The pigmented areas of your skin will absorb the flashes of light from the IPL laser at a deeper level, which can cause skin irritation. Do not use IPL directly on tattoos, freckles, dark birthmarks, moles and the like.
Does IPL work on all hair colors?
The effect of IPL depends on the level of melanin in the hair shaft. The more melanin in the hair shaft, the more effective the IPL laser works. Very light, red and gray hair contains little melanin, therefore the treatment will be less effective.
You can compensate for this with more treatments and by increasing the intensity level of the treatment. Please see our tables for which intensity you should choose, and which skin and hair types IPL works best on in this blog post.
Is hair removal with IPL suitable for all skin tones?
IPL technology works best if the hairs are darker than your skin. The treatment will therefore not be suitable for the darkest skin types, as the melanin has a chemical structure that enables it to absorb light energy. Skin cells with a lot of melanin will attract the IPL light, which means that it does not reach the hair follicles.
What modes does the IPL laser have?
Our IPL laser has 3 different modes that can be used as you wish.
Manual mode: This is a good setting where you have to press yourself to trigger flashes of light. This mode is optimal when removing hair from small areas such as the face, armpits and bikini line.
Automatic mode: To activate this mode, turn the machine away from your body and hold the on button for 3-5 seconds. This activates the automatic mode and it will start when the light field is in contact with your skin. Now the IPL machine starts flashes of light every 3 seconds. Remember that the flashes of light will only last as long as the base of the IPL machine is parallel and close to the skin.
Glide Mode: Hold the power button with the light window pressed against the skin to activate the mode. This mode is optimal for hair removal on larger areas, such as calves and thighs. This setting automatically emits a flash of light every three seconds and will only end when you lift the device away from your body.
Does the treatment hurt?
No, hair removal with IPL does not hurt. The light pulses can create a very mild feeling of heat during use, but it is completely harmless.
Can IPL be dangerous for sensitive skin?
Our handsets are designed for home use and are gentle on the skin. This means that it is also suitable for sensitive skin types.
Are there any side effects from IPL?
Side effects rarely occur if the handset is used properly. Common reactions after IPL treatment can be redness and swelling, but these symptoms usually subside immediately after the treatment. Remember to follow the procedure as described in the instructions for use, and take a skin test before choosing an intensity level. Explanation is in the user manual.
I have epilepsy. Can I use IPL?
No, then IPL treatment is unfortunately not suitable for you.
I am pregnant or breastfeeding. Can I use IPL?
No. Our IPL has not been tested for use during pregnancy or breastfeeding, and should therefore not be used. Silkemyk has been developed in collaboration with leading skin specialists, and they have advised against the use of Silkemyk's IPL or other light-based hair removal methods during pregnancy or breastfeeding, as a precaution to avoid any side effects.
Which hair removal methods can I use between treatments?
Between treatments, you can shave as needed. You should not wax or pluck your hair between treatments, as these hair removal methods remove the entire root. We need the root of the hair to be intact so that the IPL laser can absorb the light from it during the treatment.
Do I need to wear eye protection?
No, eye protection is not required when using the IPL laser. Our IPL hair remover is equipped with a sensor that means it will not fire a light flash unless the entire light window is pressed against your skin. That said, you should never try to look directly into the light while it is flashing.
Can I perform a treatment after self-tanning?
No. You should exfoliate the skin and remove dead skin cells before using the IPL laser for the best possible results.
How do I clean the IPL laser?
Cleaning the IPL hair remover is recommended after each treatment. You can use antibacterial products such as wipes, gel and cleanser to clean the laser itself and the light window after treatment. Make sure the epilator is switched off and not connected to power. You should then store the handset in a cool, dry place. The handset must be completely dry before the next use.
Is it normal for burnt hair to smell during treatment?
Yes, this is completely normal. As the light energy heats the hair, it may smell a little burnt. The smell is a result of unshaven hairs, so you can reduce the smell by making sure the skin is completely clean shaven before starting the IPL treatment.
